How do you actually find the right lawyer after a serious injury?

A relative of mine was hurt badly in an accident with a company vehicle and now the family is trying to figure out who to talk to. There seem to be a lot of firms advertising, but it is hard to tell who actually handles this type of case. How do you normally check that before committing to anyone?

I went through something similar a while back and the main thing I learned is that not every firm that advertises injury work actually takes on serious cases. Construction site injuries, commercial vehicle crashes and major falls tend to involve liability questions and insurance disputes that need someone who does that specific work regularly, not a general practice. What I ended up doing was comparing a few options and paying attention to how clearly each one explained the process, what areas they cover, and what happens with fees. Referral services exist as well, and one I came across was this link, which sets out the case types it works with. I would treat that as one source to check rather than a decision on its own. Ask directly whether there are upfront costs, who would actually be handling the file, and how communication works. If the answers stay vague, that tells you something. Worth taking the time to compare a couple of options before signing anything.
